It's now officially fall. I love fall because the air gets crisp and the colors are wonderful. I've decided September is yellow- golden rod, black-eyed susans, soybeans, yellow jackets.
September is also spiders. We have a nice collection of various sizes, including two, I hope only two, rather large wolf spiders. They hide in the day, but come out to visit at night. Luckily they keep to themselves. I put out Osage oranges I collected from the park in town, but I guess the spiders were already in the house, so the fruits weren't very effective repellents.
So, what have I been doing that has kept me from my web journal? Made a visit to Apple Works orchard in Trafalgar. They were having a festival featuring local artists. We bought a half peck of the most delicious Gala apples, and two mini fruit pies (peach & cherry.) The day was absolutely gorgeous.
Labor Day was a cook out with the family. Hubster set up the video projector and screen to watch a NASCAR race outside. Too bad I had a stomach bug. The food was not as yummy in reverse. I left the party early and missed out on ice cream birthday cake for Q. Punky had the same bug three days before, and Grandma got it three days after me.
Hubster and I took Punky to see the Disney Christmas Carol train in Bargersville. Once in a life time event that I would only do once. The line was way too long and we forgot sunblock.
Dance class started up again on Monday nights. Punky loves dance class. I actually look forward to class this year, unlike last year, thanks to her teacher, Miss Kim. She's wonderful and does really well with the girls. Four girls from last year's class are back. I'd guess they are 3-4 years old. There are four are new, tiny two-year-olds; so cute!
I've also been knitting. I am over halfway finished with the baby blanket I started in July. I put it down for a while because it was so monotonous. Now I'm determined to finish it because I need the needles for other projects, including a scarf with a crossword puzzle theme. I made two bun snoods for a couple of little ballerinas. I made a hat for Q's birthday. I have a tie on my DPNs that is made with sock yarn. I was going to make father-son ties, but I think the second ball of yarn will be socks instead.
Oh, if only my birthday was not a month before Christmas. I've asked for a set of needles that can be either straight or circular. I really need more needles to finish all the things I want to make for Christmas gifts. I did buy a pair of US19 to make the snoods, and some yarn for the crossword scarf, but I've been pretty good lately about buying things for knitting.
I used to buy plants when I worked at a garden shop and got an employee discount. I really haven't spent money on plants this year like I have in the past. My purchases have been for my new obsession, knitting. I really have ignored my gardening this year. I bought some allium and tulip bulbs yesterday to plant in the front yard this fall. Will this be the year I divide the iris? Not likely. Hey, at least I'm being honest with myself.
