Resolutions

Dec. 31, 2012...time to think about resolving to make changes in the new year.  I'm keeping it simple for 2013: exercise, spend less, stay on top of things (this one encompasses a lot), read more, and journal.

Happy New Year!

Fortuitous

I brought my backpack in to the office this morning, something I never do.

I was needing an afternoon snack because I ate lunch earlier than usual.

I decided to look in the backpack, hoping there might be something to eat inside.

I found a packet of nut & granola mix in S'mores flavor.

Today is National S'mores Day.

Recently Read: Book One

A Double Death on the Black Isle by A.D. Scott was on the new book shelf at the library. It's a murder mystery set in Scotland, one of my favorite book settings. Sounded interesting, so I picked it up...and couldn't put it down.

Life in 1950s Scotland is written so well, I felt as if I were part of the community. The characters are great and real. Their lives are complicated and interwoven. The main character, Joanne Ross, is separated from her abusive husband and raising their two daughters while working at the local newspaper. She has to wrestle with the social constraints of the 1950s. As a new reporter, she wants to cover the murders well and prove her ability to herself and her boss, but she has personal connections to the families involved that complicate things.

Besides Scotland, other elements that this book had in common with other's I've enjoyed are knitting, the Church, strong female main characters, especially ones who go against the norm. I don't want to give away the ending, but I will say I enjoyed this book and want to look for A Small Death in the Great Glen.
